Howard, 27, they will have to resort to
gearing up for a run at LeBron James or
Carmelo Anthony in free agency next
summer, when they might be millions
under the salary cap. The most Howard
can sign for with the Rockets is four
years at $88 million, but the three-time
Defensive Player of the Year could still
end up getting the extra $30 million if
the Lakers decide to work a
sign-and-trade.
